Business Analysis training continues to grow

June 2006  Print

DDLS is seeing a lot of interest with the newly launched Business Analysis training course. Since its introduction in early May, Business Analysis training has been very popular! This however is not surprising given the changing emphasis of the IT industry and the rising demand for Business Analysis skills.

Gartner’s Senior Vice President of research Peter Sondergaard predicted a shift in the IT industry away from IT-specialty skills toward employees with more business analyst skills. Sondergaard even went on to say at ITxpo, in San Francisco, that “Changes in technology are eliminating the need for skills that have historically been important.”

Business Analysts and skills in business analysis are increasing in demand as roles that are traditionally based around technical skills become commoditised and prime for outsourcing. A key reason for IT project failure comes from a lack of business analysis training. An additional problem is that assumptions are often made that technical staff can transition to a Systems or Business Analyst role without sufficient training.

The DDLS 5 day Business Analysis program has been designed to provide attendees with the necessary business analysis knowledge and skills to transform a one-line issue or opportunity into a concise, yet comprehensive business case that adds measurable value to the organisation.

The interactive and practical course takes participants through the whole BA process; from investigating the issue and solution at a high and detailed level with comprehensive analysis techniques, business requirement development, and negotiation of agreement among different personality types and different stakeholder interest, right through to the development, drafting and presentation of a persuasive Business Case.

Good business analysis skills are a critical component of a successful project as success often depends on the effective implementation of the right solution. Effective business analysis is vital in developing the right solution, understanding and quantifying the current situation, defining the business drivers and requirements, and ensuring the solution and infrastructure are properly aligned to organisational business objectives.
