Overview:This five-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to install, configure, manage, maintain and troubleshoot Windows Vista desktops.
It will focus on the areas: Operating System, Hardware, Networking, Security, Applications, and Installation. By the end of the course, the student will have installed and configured a Windows Vista desktop that is secure, on the network, and ready for use.
This course in provides an all in one consolidation of knowledge that would normally require attending 5115, 5116 and 5118 courses separately. This course forms part of Windows Vista curriculum and can serve as the entry point for studies continuing onto enterprise level study.
This course provides foundation for studies where students are aiming to certify in the Vista line of certifications. (MCTS Windows Vista 70-620)

The first module provides an overview of the wealth of functionality introduced in Windows Vista. Due to the range of features in Vista it is not possible to cover every aspect in a single course. Target Audience:The audience of this course spans from entry level IT professionals with 6 months experience or more, through to Experienced IT professionals looking to cross over knowledge from previous operating systems. IT professionals who attend this course focus on a broad range of desktop operating system, desktop application, mobile device, networking, and hardware support issues. As working professionals, students must combine technical expertise with problem solving and decision making skills and a deep understanding of their business and technical environments to quickly resolve support issues. They consider all variables, justify resolutions with a logical troubleshooting approach, and relate tradeoffs to business and technical requirements and constraints.
Prerequisites:• Familiarity with PC hardware and devices. For example, ability to look into device manager and look for unsupported devices.
• Basic TCP/IP knowledge. For example, that you need to have a valid IP address.
• Basic Windows and Active Directory knowledge. For example, domain user accounts, domain vs. local user accounts, user profiles, and group membership.
• Experience with mapping network file shares. For example, familiar with UNC paths, mapping local resources to server/share.
• Experience with running commands from a command window. For example, DOS command prompt.
• Experience with reviewing BIOS settings.
