Certified Ethical Hacker Certification - why is the exam so challenging?

29 Apr 2016

In my recent conversations within the security community there has been much discussion around how hard the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) exam is to pass - and it seems to be causing some consternation. Particularly since the course content has been updated to V9 and the exam is not versioned.

That’s right - whilst the content for official courses is versioned, the exam is not.

The reason for this may seem obscure - course content clearly does need versioning when altered/updated so why shouldn't the exam match this versioning?

With the CEH exam, the reality is that the content is under independent review - questions may be updated more regularly than the courseware  to meet ANSI accreditation standards.

It is a key ANSI requirement that there is separation between training of the skills and testing services to prove necessary skills to earn the certification.

ANSI is a private non-profit organisation. Its mission is " to enhance U.S. global competitiveness and the American quality of life by promoting, facilitating, and safeguarding the integrity of the voluntary standardisation and conformity in assessment system."

The accreditation process is one designed for impartiality - those earning the certification accredited to this standard can demonstrate to employers the value of their certification.

This certainly isn't an exam for the faint at heart.

But this is where quality instruction comes into play. With solid content from EC-Council as the foundation of teaching core skills, DDLS trainers can cover the essentials with you in class. As experts in the area, they'll also provide information on current threats post version release. After all, if you're going to demonstrate your value to an employer, you'll need to know what's an issue now - not what was an issue at the time material was printed.

With CEH there's an awful lot of content to cover and class time is clearly limited - for more information on course contents and schedules visit the current course outline.  Time spent in class is intensely focussed on the core skills you will need.

With iLabs provided, the customer can practice the skills taught in class anywhere they have access to the internet - reinforcing and honing skills imparted during the 5 day course. This is why DDLS is including the iLabs for you for a limited time.

With practice exams, your training is truly complete - ask your Account Manager about accessing these tests and watch this space for our next promotion that will include these in addition to the iLabs we already provide.

We can't guarantee you a pass - but we can guarantee the best chance you'll have.

Good luck in your endeavours!
