ITIL® 4 has been designed to help organisations meet the increasing demand from the current complex digital environment. The new scheme has been designed to be backwards compatible with ITIL v3 and streamlined to encourage conversion beyond ITIL Foundation level.
Overview
The benefits of a candidate moving to ITIL 4 are:
Demonstrates that a candidate has the knowledge to navigate the modern digital landscape
Shows that a candidate’s certification/skills are up-to-date
All students commence their ITIL certification journey with the ITIL 4 Foundation certification.
Students who are new to ITIL will take ITIL 4 Foundation course.

Students with existing ITIL v3 Foundation certification can continue the journey with the shorter Upgrade to ITIL 4 Foundation course.

New ITIL 4 Certification Designations
After passing ITIL 4 Foundation, two separate designations may be pursued.
To obtain the ITIL Managing Professional (ITIL MP) designation or ITIL Strategic Leader (ITIL SL) designation, the candidate must complete all modules in the relevant stream, with Direct, Plan and Improve (DPI) being a universal module for both streams. If both are successfully attained, the candidate will be eligible for assessment to become an ITIL Master.
The ITIL 4 Certification Scheme comprises the following modules:
ITIL Specialist, with three modules:
ITIL Strategist, with one module:
ITIL Leader, with one module:
There is only one bridge offered for ITIL v3 certified candidates. This is only for existing ITIL Expert or anyone with at least 17 credits in the existing ITIL v3 certification scheme. The Transition Module leads to the ITIL Managing Professional designation.
Important note: the Managing Professional (MP) Transition course and the associated exam will be discontinued by PeopleCert on 1 July 2022. If you wish to take this path you must take the exam PRIOR to 1 July 2022.
