The IoT, or Internet of things is shaping up to become business as usual for many organizations. Access to smart devices and increased skills in tools such as Power BI has seen significant growth, depending on whose statistics you believe, anything from 28 billion to 50 billion devices will be business collecting data by 2020. Now is the time to get your skills 'Internet of Things' ready.

Skills Gained

At course completion:

You will be better able to implement device registration with the IoT Hub registry and visualize hot data with Power BI. In addition:

  • Implement a simulator sending telemetry from smart meters
  • Capture and process both hot and cold data using Stream Analytics and HDInsight with Spark
  • Visualize hot data with Power BI
Key Topics

Module 1: Whiteboard Design Session - Internet of Things
• Review the customer case study
• Call to action: Design a proof of concept solution
• Call to action: Present the solution

Module 2: Hackathon - Internet of Things
• Before the hackathon
• Environment setup
• IoT Hub provisioning
• Completing the Smart Meter Simulator
• Hot path data processing with Stream Analytics
• Cold path data processing with HDInsight Spark
• Reporting device outages with IoT Hub Operations Monitoring
• Clean-up

Module 3: Go back to work and change the world

Target Audience

The ideal attendee will have 300-level architectural expertise of infrastructure and solutions design. Typically an attended might be a Cloud Architect or IT professional who has architectural expertise in infrastructure and solutions design in cloud technologies. Better still, if they want to learn more about Azure and Azure services with an IoT flavour.

It's all about the content.

If implementing an end-to-end solution simulating high velocity data emitted from smart meters and analyzed in Azure, sounds like your idea of fun, this is the workshop for you. We'll also create a lambda architecture, filtering a subset of the telemetry data for real-time visualization on the hot path, storing all of the data in long-term storage for the cold pat
