    About Illuminate Group

The organisation began over nine years ago as a registered training organisation (RTO). Initially called RTO Solutions, the team delivered purely vocational-based training to the Western Australian industry.

From 2011 to 2015, the organisation gained a reputation for delivering outstanding leadership solutions that changed people’s lives by creating light bulb moments. Moments that make people think, feel, and behave differently. Creating light bulb moments became the organisation’s mantra and they began to refer to themselves as Illuminate Group.

By 2015, Illuminate Group formed a joint venture with a team of like-minded management consultants and created a new organisation called illuminate+. illuminate+ enables Illuminate Group to deliver an integrated solution that combines contemporary management consulting solutions with outstanding leadership development programs.

Today, the group of companies provides vocational training through RTO Industrial Solutions, Leadership Development Programs through Illuminate Group, and Management Consulting solutions through illuminate+.

Why IT Professionals Need Emotional Intelligence Training

Emotional intelligence (EI) is a critical skill that plays a significant role in the IT and technical training field. It refers to the ability to recognise, understand, manage, and effectively utilise one's own emotions and the emotions of others. EI encompasses various competencies including self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skills -- all of which are essential for success.

Even professionals whose roles are solitary require emotional intelligence. Having an awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours helps you regulate your emotions and respond to setbacks.

    • Enhancing Team Collaboration: IT and technical professionals often work in teams to tackle complex projects. Effective teamwork depends on individuals' abilities to communicate, collaborate, and resolve conflicts constructively. High EI helps you build strong working relationships, foster a positive team environment, and navigate interpersonal challenges effectively.

    • Stress Management: The field can be highly demanding and stressful, with tight deadlines and troubleshooting. In the case of cyber security specialists, an incident means bursts of long hours on high alert with plenty at stake. Individuals with a high level of EI are better equipped to stay calm under pressure, make rational decisions, and maintain productivity and mental well-being.

    • Improved Communication: IT professionals need to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders such as clients or end-users. EI helps them adapt their communication style, ensuring that information is conveyed clearly and in a way that is easy for others to understand.

    • Empathy with End-Users: Whether you are providing technical support to people who may be frustrated or stressed over issues with end-user apps or whether you are developing solutions for end-users, empathy is critical. It enables one to understand and relate to end-users' emotions, leading to more positive interactions and better problem-solving.

    • Conflict Resolution: Conflicts can arise in any workplace, and IT is no exception. Emotional intelligence equips IT professionals with the skills to resolve conflicts diplomatically, fostering a harmonious work environment and preventing disputes from escalating into more significant issues.

    • Leadership Development: As IT professionals advance in their careers, many may take on leadership roles. Leadership requires the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide teams effectively. High EI is a fundamental trait of successful leaders, helping them connect with their people, build trust, and drive results through collaboration.

    • Adaptability to Change: Lumify Work helps you turn change into opportunity. The IT industry is constantly evolving, with new technologies like Generative AI emerging regularly. Professionals with strong EI are more adaptable to change and open to learning new skills and innovating.

    • Client and Stakeholder Relations: For IT service providers, maintaining positive relationships with clients and stakeholders is essential for business success. High EI helps you better understand client needs, manage expectations, and build long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships.

    • Ethical Decision-Making: Ethical dilemmas can arise in IT, such as data privacy concerns, cyber security breaches, and uses of artificial intelligence. EI helps professionals make ethical decisions by considering the impact on stakeholders and the broader community rather than solely focusing on technical solutions.

    • Professional Development Training: Finally, emotional intelligence is a skill that can be developed and improved over time. Investing in EI training and development can lead to personal and professional growth for IT professionals, enhancing their career prospects and job satisfaction.

As the IT industry continues to evolve, the importance of emotional intelligence in technical training and IT roles is likely to grow, making it a valuable asset for both individuals and organisations.
